Brief History of the Centre The establishment of the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (OGITECHCED) by the Institute’s management in the year 2007 was in line with the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Vision 2020 of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Hence, the availability of functional Centre for Entrepreneurship Education (EEd) is a prerequisite for the approval of Polytechnic Education programmes by its regulatory authority, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). OGITECHCED is responsible for the planning and execution of Entrepreneurship Education for all Students and Staff Members and others in the Institute. The aim of the Entrepreneurship Education (EEd) programme is to have a well-equipped Research Centre for the Entrepreneurship/Leadership Studies and to re-train those who have experience in different vocational skills (i.e Train the Trainers). The Ogun State Institute of Technology, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development is a practical and business-oriented directorate where people of different background and culture receive technical-based training to empower themselves. The Centre currently has nineteen (19) categorized skills that cut across all our schools from where our students are expected to make their interest-based choice under ‘Preferred’ and ‘Alternative’ options. Vision Statement To empower graduates of Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa entrepreneurially in a bid to make them productive and contribute significantly towards socio-economic and human capital development of the Nation. Mission Statement To develop an entrepreneurial spirit, skills and knowledge in students of OGITECH, Igbesa and others in the external context (i.e individuals, private and public organizations) so as to empower them to become wealth creators in a bid to alleviate poverty in its entire ramifications. Objectives of the Centre Entrepreneurship Education is critical to socio-economic growth of any Nation. Hence, OGITECHCED is designed to achieve the following specific objectives which are to: I .Create and promote entrepreneurial awareness and opportunities. ii. .Impact entrepreneurial skills in the students, staffers, and others in the external context (i.e individuals, private and public organizations). iii. Enhance the capacity of potential and practicing entrepreneurs who desire to learn practical skills that will make them self-employed and self-dependents. iv. Make OGITECH, Igbesa graduates employable labour, thereby depleting unemployment rate in Nigeria. v. Stimulate the development and growth of entrepreneurship in Nigeria vi. Mentor and offer supportive programmes to Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) operators. vii. Provide entrepreneurial consultancy services to the Government and private sector, thereby generating revenue to the Polytechnic. viii. Create innovative and competitive projects/products for local, national and international trade exhibitions and competitions. Managements The Centre is being administered by The Management Board, Academic Board members, Advisory Board, Resource Persons and The Bursary.
